Let’s Explore
Experience the beautiful countryside, walking & cycling in the Peak District
So many people visit Buxton and the Peak District area to enjoy walking and cycling around the beautiful countryside and there is something for everyone here, whether you just want a leisurely paced, easy walk on flat footpaths, to challenging trails high up on the Moorside peaks. You can explore national or local trails or simply take advantage of the miles of open access land or rights of way available around the district.
For the more experienced walkers, there’s plenty of challenges to keep you coming back for more, such as walking the Pennine Way National Trail which follows the Pennine chain along the rugged backbone of England, from Edale, across Kinder Scout, to the highest point in the Peak District at 636 metres (2,087 ft).
You can purchase local maps at the Old Hall Hotel from reception for £3.00, including for Lathkill Dale, The Roaches, Hartington, Dove Dale and Goyt Valley. Or why not try a guided walk with our friend Sally Mosley, take a look at what she has to offer here.
During your stay we can offer the following facilities
- Separate space for drying outdoor clothing and footwear
- Boot scrape at the front door
- Outdoor cleaning facilities for really muddy stuff
For the avid cyclist or mountain biker, the Peak district is the perfect setting for a good days riding. A cycle hire and delivery service is available from Peak Tours (including kids cycle hire).
We must always follow the Countryside Code it applies to all parts of the countryside. Most of it is just good common sense, designed to help us all to respect, protect and enjoy our countryside. Download here
