Buxton and the surrounding area is home to an array of courses all with a variety of designs and layouts but the best course close to the hotel is Cavendish Golf Club which is recognised as one of the finest in Derbyshire.
Only a 15 minute walk or short drive away from The Old Hall Hotel, Cavendish offers a great golfing experience set amongst the beautiful rolling fells of the Peak District.
Alistair Mackenzie, one of the finest golf architects, designed Cavendish in the 1920s and much remains the same today on a course that weaves through undulating woodland and dense copses making it a real challenge.
The feature hole is probably the par three 4th, which needs a solid shot from the elevated tee shot to avoid the ring of bunkers. The course is not long but with a premium on accuracy it does not need to be.
Cavendish is thought by some to be Dr MacKenzie’s most accomplished work in the UK and quite possibly the best layout in the world under 6000 yards.
