A Little Night Music - September 3-5, 2015

a little night music

Buxton welcomes the cast and crew of A Little Night Music from September 3-5, 2015.

Taken from a book by Hugh Wheeler, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s Smiles of a Summer Night, this musical has a host of big names attached to its history. In a score made famous by Send in the Clowns, the musical is full of nostalgia and the memories of youth with a dialogue that’s sophisticated, urbane and witty.

Considered to be Sondheim’s best work, A Little Night Music interweaves a tangled web of former and current lovers among the upper crust elite of Sweden. Esteemed lawyer Fredrik Egerman has recently married Anne, with whom his son, Henrik, has also fallen madly in love.

When reunited with a past love – the once famous Desiree Armfeldt – Fredrik’s resolve is tested. When her married lover Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm hears about the tryst, things get a whole lot more complicated.

The situation becomes even more tense after Desirée convinces her mother to host Fredrik and his family for a weekend on her lavish country estate—and the Count, with wife in tow, crashes the party.
