Introduction
It is our aim at the Old hall Hotel to cater for the direct needs and requirements of all our guests and visitors. This statement aims to set out the current provisions and facilities we are able to offer to our customers.
Pre-Arrival
- We are situated in the centre of Buxton opposite the Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. We are also located within 5 minutes walk of the town centre.
- There is a train station within an 8 minute walk of the hotel, or a short taxi journey. More information on trains can be found at this website. http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/BUX/details.aspx
- There are a number of local taxi services that have accessible taxis if required. Allied Taxi’s can be phoned on 01298 72123.
- There are a number of bus stops within 5 minutes walk from the hotel with frequent bus services. http://www.highpeakbuses.com

- Please be mindful when booking accommodation that whilst we do have a lift to access all floors of the hotel it is situated in an old lift shaft and therefore the entrance is only 67cm wide, and the lift 70 cm deep with the door open.
- The lift is also unavailable to use during an emergency, i.e. in the event of a fire.
- We welcome dogs at the Old Hall Hotel.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
- On arrival guests are advised to come into the hotel reception and check in. There is public car parking available in front, opposite and down the sides of the hotel we have exclusive rights to 24 hour parking in these areas for our guests. Valid tickets for this can only be obtained from our reception on arrival during check in.
- Our reception is open from 7am until 11 pm, if your arrival is going to be later than this please advise us and we will ask the night manager to expect your arrival.
- The front entrance is lit until midnight each night, there are several street lamps illuminating the parking areas during the hours of darkness.
- We will be happy to assist guests with luggage if this is required.
- It is possible to drop off at the front door of the hotel for anyone with mobility impairment by briefly double parking on the wide road in front of the hotel.
- There is a revolving doorway at the main entrance of the hotel we have a disabled call bell to the left of the front door. When this is pressed a member of staff will come to assist by opening the door up fully.
Main Entrance & Reception
- The front door and main corridor of the hotel are wide up to reception, there are no steps. The reception desk has a 75cm high counter.
- On arrival, guests are required to complete our registration form and are given full check in information and our facilities explained.
- Seating is provided in the residents lounges on either side of the front entrance.
- We have a mobile loop hearing aid system situated in reception, which is available for use. We have no permanent music playing within the hotel but occasionally will have a live pianist playing in the restaurant.
- We have a pad and pen available at reception and writing pads and pencils are provided in the rooms.
- A familiarisation tour or escorted visit is available upon prior request.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
- Lift - small lift access to some rooms on first and second floors, entrance to lift only 67cm wide with a manual door, assistance available from reception if required. Not available in emergency, i.e. in case of fire.
- All public areas are carpeted with the exception of the restaurant which has a wooden floor. All areas on the ground floor have level access with the exception of one of our conference/function rooms having a step down into it for which we have a ramp available on request.
- We do not have a public telephone available within the hotel. We are happy to make emergency calls/ telephone taxis on request at reception.
- We have baby changing facilities available.
- We welcome dogs into the George Potter Bar or either of the two front lounges within the hotel. Water bowls available upon request, there is a large public park opposite the hotel for walking.
Public Areas - WC
- The toilets are located past reception and left at the end of the main corridor. We have a large disabled access unisex toilet with a handrail and emergency call bell.
- The route to the facility is a wide carpeted level corridor.
- The baby changing facility is located within this toilet and folds down from the wall.
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges
- The main restaurant is situated off the main corridor of the hotel and has a level access wooden floor with removable chairs, all service is provided at the table.
- The Wine Bar and George Potter bars are both of level access with carpeted flooring and removable chairs both these areas are counter serviced but waitress service can be available upon request.
- The wine bar entrance is 75cm wide.
- Menus are can be made available with large print, or a staff help with menus is always on offer. Our kitchen can cater for any special dietry requirements upon request.
Laundry
- Laundry services are available from reception.
Outdoor Facilities
We have an outdoor courtyard accesible through the wine bar,the doorway is 105cm wide. There are outdoor tables available throughout the summer.
Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment
We have three conference/ function rooms available on the ground floor of the hotel these are all carpeted rooms with level access with the exception of the Shrewsbury room whic has a step down into it. We have a ramp available upon request. All these rooms are accesible from the main corridor.
Guide to Bedrooms
We have 39 bedrooms spread over two floors, some of the rooms listed below are easily accessible from the lift, whereas others have steps and long corridors in order to reach them. All sets of steps on the two floors have hand rails to assist. The list below denotes bedrooms with no steps from the lift and proximity.
First Floor
- Room 2: Classic Double Room. This room is one of the small Classic Double’s with steps down to reach from the lift with a wide corridor. It has a view of the Pavilion Gardens and is on the corner of the hotel. The room has a large 5ft bed and the en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 3: Classic Double or Twin Room with a view of the Pavilion Gardens. This room has steps from the lift with a wide corridor. This room has a large 6ft bed in the room and the en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 5: Classic Double or Twin Room with a view of the Pavilion Gardens. This room has steps from the lift with a wide corridor. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 6: Classic Double or Twin room with a view of the Pavilion Gardens. This room has steps from the lift with a wide corridor. There is 6 steps up to the en suite bathroom which has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 7: Classic Double or Twin room with a view of the Pavilion Gardens. This room has steps from the lift with a wide corridor. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 8: Four Poster Room. This large size room has a view of the Pavilion Gardens. The room has steps from the lift with a wide corridor. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 10: Executive Double Room with a single bed. This room has steps from the lift with a wide corridor. This is a spacious room with a view of the Pavilion Gardens. The en suite has a bath with a shower in the bath.
- Room 11: Standard Double Room. This room is large in size situated at the back of the hotel. The room is sold at a discounted price as the kitchen fan is located outside the window of this room: it is on from 7.00am until 11.00pm and makes a low humming noise. The en suite has a bath with shower in bath.
- Room 12: Standard Double Room. This room is small in size with a view of the Opera House. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 14: Standard Double Room with a view of the courtyard. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 15: Single Room. Small room with a limited view. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 16: Standard Double Room. This room is at the back of the hotel with a limited view. The bedroom floor slopes slightly. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 17: Single Room. This room is small in size with a view of the courtyard. The room is close to the lift with steps and handrail down to the room. The en suite has a walk in shower.
Room 18: Classic Double Room. This is a large room with a view of the Crescent building. This room is close to the lift and has steps with a handrail down to reach the room. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 21: Classic Double Room. This room has a limited view. This room is close to the lift and has steps with a handrail down to reach the room. The en suite has a bath with a shower in the bath.
- Room 22: Classic Twin Rroom. This room is medium in size with limited view as situated at the back of the hotel. Near to the lift with steps with handrail down to reach the room. The en suite has a bath with a shower in the bath.
- Room 23: Classic Twin Room, This is a large room with a view of the Crescent building. This room is close to the lift with no steps from lift to room. The en suite has a walk in shower only.
- Room 24: Classic Double Room. This is a large room, close to the lift with no steps from the lift to the room. This room has a view of the slopes. The en suite has a walk in Shower only.
- Room 25: Classic Twin Room. This is a large room with view of the slopes. This room is close to lift with no steps from lift to the room. The en suite has a bath with a shower in the bath.
- Room 26: Mary’s Bower. This is our Bridal suite. This is a large room with a view of the Courtyard. The room is close to the lift but with steps down to room with handrail. The ensuite has a bath with a shower in the bath.
- Room 27: Four Poster Room. This is a large room with view of the slopes. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 28: Four Poster Room. This is a large room with a view of the courtyard. This room is close to the lift with steps down with a handrail. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 29: Executive Double Room. This is a large room with view of the slopes. This room has an additional bed in the room. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
Second Floor
- Room 30: Executive Double/ Twin Room. This is a large room with view of the Slopes. This room has a single sofa bed in the room. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 31: Executive Double/ Twin Room. This is a large room with view of the slopes. This is a quiet room close to the lift with no steps from the lift to the room. The en suite has a walk in shower.
- Room 33: Classic Double Room. This is a smaller room with view of the slopes. This room is close to the lift with no steps from the lift to the room. The en suite has bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 35: Classic Double/ Twin Room. This room is medium in size with a limited view. The room is next to the lift with no steps from the lift to the room. The en suite has bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 36: Classic Double Room. This room is a quiet room, medium in size with limited view. The ensuite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 37: Standard Double Room. This is a smaller room with limited view. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 38: Classic Double Room. This room is medium size with limited view. The en suite has bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 39: Executive Double/ Twin Room. This is a large room with veiw of Courtyard. The en suire has a walk in shower and separate bath.
- Room 40: Standard double Room. This is a small standard double room with view of the Pavillion Gardens. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 41: Standard Double Room. This is a small standard double room with view of the Pavillion Gardens. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 42: Standard Double Room. This room is medium in size with view of the Courtyard. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 43: Standard Double Room. This room has a view of the Pavillion Gardens. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 44: Standard Double Room. This room has a view of the Pavillion Gardens on the corner of the hotel. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Room 45: Executive Double/ Twin Room. This is a large room with a view of the Slopes. This room has a single sofa bed in the room. The en suite has a bath with shower in the bath.
- Flat - The Flat is accessible from the first floor. It has steep steps up comprising a 1 single bedroom & bath Room. 1 Standard Double & 2 Single beds with separate bathroom. It has a kitchen, living area and landing view of Opera House
- All rooms are non smoking bedrooms.
- We have non-feather pillows available. A vibrating alarm pillow is also available upon request.
- We allow dogs to stay in bedrooms when pre arranged.
- Staff assistance/ familiarisation tour available on request.
- All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities available.
Additional Information
- Mobile phone reception can be restricted within the hotel due to the very old thick walls.
- We are totally non-smoking.
- A selection of local information is available in our displays/ entrance hall, the Tourist Information Centre is located next door to the hotel.
- There is an information folder in each bedroom with guest information about the hotel, Buxton and surrounding areas.
- Emergency escape routes are displayed on the inside of each bedroom door.
