Since Discover Buxton launched their guided tours of The Old Hall Hotel, where she was held prisoner, many people have come to hear her story. They have walked in her footsteps, seen Mary’s Bower and discovered hidden secrets.
Whilst under house arrest her she took the water treatments for her deteriorating health against a backdrop of plotting, betrayal and murder. The lives of three strong, intelligent and dynastic women, Mary Queen of Scots, Queen Elizabeth 1st of England and Bess of Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury were inextricably linked in the tragic, political and religious power game they explore in their tale.
The Discover Buxton tours, are based at The Old hall Hotel, recount these times, when many of the Tudor court of Queen Elizabeth met to scheme and dream in the company of the charismatic, imprisoned Scottish Queen.
